Brave New Year That Has Such Changes In It
Yes, it's that time of year again when we make promises we know we won't keep. This is why we don't make New Year's resolutions ourselves. If a change is worth making, we try to make it when we become aware of it - not save it for a particular time of year. This very much in harmony with our opinion about presents. If a present is worth giving, give it. Don't give because the calendar tells you you have to. Give because the giving rises up within you. If more people took this attitude there would be fewer crocheted toilet paper covers in the world and that would be a great and useful thing.
Nevertheless, the good folks around here at the vestry DID make some New Year's resolutions. Brother Saturnillus swears he will forsake forever the making (and consuming) of wassail. Sister Antiphilia insists she will never again engage in verbal one-upswomanship with a pistol-toting charity-worker. Dr. Liberty Hall undertakes most solemnly to restrain her prolixity in our proximity. As for Brother Oral Eighnell - we haven't the space to print entire the list. Suffice it to say, he promises to be a new man almost in his entirety.
All incredibly useful changes. If only, if only...
