We were going to direct Sister Antiphilia to post a remembrance of Willa Cather today. The Divine Cather was born today in 1873. Although never openly One of Us - in those days it wasn't done - she appears to have been a vigorous and prominent proponent of (ahem) The Boston Marriage.
However a much more thought-provoking incident has just occurred and Sister Antiphilia is in Dudgeon Most High. And who among us can blame her?
Sister informs us that "The Supreme Court said Monday it will decide whether a California law school violated the constitutional rights of a Christian group by denying it recognition as an official campus organization because it excludes gays and lesbians." She read about this in the San Francisco Chronicle and her as-always-freshly-laundered blood burst into a rolling boil. (True, she is plagued with such boils on a regular basis, but what a blessing they for the rest of us who are in a position to benefit from the wonderous inspirations they provide her!)
Sister correctly reminds Us that True Christians(TM) are admonished to live a Christ Like Life. Since the Number One thing The Christ did in order to be The Christ was to allow Himself to be crucified - Sister suggests gifting all who claim to be Christians their very own Personal Crucifixion (tax-deductible as a religious expense, of course) so that they might FINALLY AND IRREVOCABLY achieve that much bruited about but rarely ever fully realized Christ Like Life.
Think of how blissfully happy that would make the poor dears! And how happy it would make everyone else, as well! 'Tis truly a blessing to give, is it not?
'Tis the season to spread love and joy, please pass on our blessed Sister's loving suggestion to as many Good Folks as you can think of.
It is interesting to note that the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines DUDGEON as "a dagger with a handle of dudgeon". Apparently even back in the 15th Century - when the word was in common use - folks knew all about our blessed Sister Antiphilia. This is clear evidence of re-incarnation. Hallelujah!
ReplyDeleteDon't get me started on the connexion between you, Brother Saturnillus, and the term "common use".
