A Pronouncement

There are, unfortunately, members of the Church who are confused and more than a little put out when postings, such as the last, are made. Of what possible interest to OUR community could such a horrifying official anti-semitism be? Oh, sure, it's a nasty thing - but it has nothing to do with Us. We have suffered far more at the hands of the military, after all.

Hmm...

We have observed that we can all be a little too possessive with our sorrows. There are Jews who get righteously indignant when African-Americans refer to slavery as "The Black Holocaust" and certain African-Americans tear up the scenery when the term "Civil Rights Struggle" is used by anyone other than themselves - as if, like "Holocaust", it were a trademarked term such as, say, "Good to the Last Drop" or "Fair and Balanced".

This sort of ugly, short-sighted possessiveness is not only found in classes of people but in individuals as well. We have learned over the years not to complain of our wisdom tooth extractions or, ahem, former "Friends". Someone will always insist that THEIR experience was far worse and how dare we poach on their exclusive emotional territory.

Stop it.

Anyone's holocaust is EVERYONE's holocaust. Anyone's civil rights struggle is EVERYONE's civil rights struggle. If you can't see that, YOU are why holocausts continue to happen - YOU are why civil rights struggles never end.

This has been an Official Ex Cathedra Pronouncement, please make note and recant your Heresy accordingly. Thank you and have A Lovely Day.
